In
the past, the Columbus Area had a very active Chapter of the Experimental
Aircraft Association (i.e. Chapter 729).
But, in the mid-eighties the
Chapter became inactive. When Brett Herrick moved to Columbus he was
frustrated to find that Columbus and the surrounding communities didn’t have
an active EAA chapter. Thus, he restarted Chapter 729 in the Fall of 1996.
This chapter now has approximately forty members.
EAA
Chapter 729 has three main areas of focus. First, the Chapter provides an
opportunity for people with an interest in aviation to get together.
Second, the Chapter provides a way for people who are interested in building or
restoring airplanes to share information. Third, the Chapter has been very
active in sharing its interest in aviation with the young people of the Columbus
area. In particular, the Chapter has given over four hundred and fifty Young
Eagle flights and has been recognized by the mayor of Columbus for these
efforts.
Ford Tri-Motor Visit:
EAA Chapter 729 hosted a succesful visit by the Ford Tri-Motor on June 11, 12
and 13, 2007. We flew 45 flights over the 2 1/2 days of the visit.
