07Feb03, 4 hours - Returned the aircraft into the rolling
cradle. I had planned on lifting the entire assembly high enough
to drop it into the cradle, but fresh snow is keeping us indoors, and
the ceiling is not high enough. Instead, I dissembled the cradle,
rolled the trolley underneath, and reassembled.

08-09Feb03, 9 hours - Reinstalled the wing hookah and leveled
everything up. Retrieved the horizontal from the hanger, and
jigged it up as well. By leveling with the wing on, and using the
wing tips as reference. I've got the best shot at getting it all
square. I'm using the adjustment blocks from Mike Jones' builder
tip at Glasair.org (If you don't
belong to Glasair.org, stop reading now and go sign up!) Once all
was fit up, I installed the elevators and the counterweight to check the
fit. It didn't. The horizontal was about 1/16" off
center to port. Very difficult to measure, but dead obvious with
the elevators installed. Once that was fixed, I found
the the counterweight strikes the com antenna ferrules. I'll need
to rework the counterweight to clear. Taped up the inside gap, and
filled the routed channels in the fuselage, up to the horizontal.
Once that cured a bit, I was able to put a proper radius on the inside,
and put the first layer of glass on the inside.
10-17Feb03, 10 hours - Storms continue outside, so I've continued on
the horizontal with the wing attached. Fabricated the forward
bulkheads (the Eiffel tower and the horse collar). Both took
two tries, as the templates were about 3/8" too narrow.
Installed the internal laminates, which was a bit of a job solo, but
went well with the extra time afforded by the 50 degree shop.
Fired the heat back up and fabricated the brackets for the rudder cable
bellcrank, the rudder cable to pedal attach links, and the trim pulleys.
More storms coming, so it's beginning to look like I'll get to finish
the inside of the empennage and fit the aileron & rudder controls
before disassembling the aircraft.
18-28Feb03, 17 hours - Continued the horizontal installation. I
pre-drilled the horse collar before installing it. This turned out
to be a mistake, because although it fit correctly, I had mis-marked the
the vertical axis, and the cable brackets are all crooked. I
filled the holes and re-drilled. All structural layups are now
complete on the horizontal.
