05Oct02, 4 hours - Removed the left wheelpant, began forming the lip
& flange at the fairing split. Installed the right pant,
formed the fairing, and laid the fairing in place.06Oct 01 - Cut the lip loose on the left fairing...did not wait long
enough (24hrs.). This resin sets much slower, and the heat from
the dremel wheel caused the lip to distort. Will give epoxy more
time in the future.
13Oct02, 5 hours - Installed scrap prop hub, and began fitting
spinner.
15Oct02, 1 hour - Spinner is in place and drilled.
16Oct02, 5 hours - Fabricated the rear bulkhead reinforcements.
Removed the right wheelpant and continued to dress the fairings on both.
17Oct02, 2 hours - Installed nutplates and spinner.
18Oct02-31Oct02, 12
hours - Faired the top left wingskin. This took an amazing amount
of time. I'm using a 6' long sanding block, 3m Gold Stikit 180
grit paper, Evercoat glaze coat,
and guidecoat to find the low spots. My lack of proficiency with
filler means that I've put about 2 pounds on, and taken at least 80%
back off. In a few spots the variation was more than one layer of
glass thick, so I put on a layer of glass first. This kept the
filler thickness less than 1/64" most places, no more than
1/32" anywhere. The right wing in the first photo shows what
I've got to start with, the gray spots being guidecoat that did not sand
off because the block did not touch down. The variations are all
less than .030", most less than .010. The left wing in the bottom photo is completed.
