Glasair Super-II FT N59CL

Jan02, 6 hours - Laid out rear bulkhead location.  Located & installed the marker beacon & main com antennae.  Began layout of the header tank.  The standard layout will rub on my right foot when braking, so I'm trying to find a layout that is better, but without losing capacity.   Cut hole for the header tank filler, and sanded the top front seam.

Jan02, 2 hours - Laid out static ports, relieved interior foam at the ports & laid in backing glass.

Jan02, 1 hour - Fit the static ports. Cut foam for the belly panel reinforcements.

Jan02, 7 hours - Began fitting doors.  I'll carry the doors as far as hinge attachment, then leave final trimming until the engine is mounted & on gear.  Trimmed the fuselage for the canopy seal, installed the seal, trial fit the canopies & mounted the left side canopy hinges.  Mounted outside door handles.

Jan02, 2 hours - Located and drilled the right side canopy hinges & potted both sets.

Jan02, 4 hours - Repotted one hinge which was not as well aligned as the others.  Built up the door latch parts, and installed the left latch system.  After several trial fits, the custom snap ring provided with the kit is too stretched to be usable, must order more.

Jan02, 2 hours - Continued door fitting...also finally sorted out header tank layout.  After much obsessing with tank shape & location to make sure my toes did not hit the tank while braking, several builders on the newsgroup led me to my problem:  I installed the rudder pedals too high.  They can go down about an inch, so after doing that I'll be able to build the tank as standard.  I also was advised to watch out for interference with the plumbing, so I'll mock that up before committing to glass.

Jan02, 4 hours - Finished up door fitting, and jigged up to mount hinges.  My trusty Dremel finally died while carving out the  hinge pin recesses.  A short time after hitting the hardware store, I was able to pot the hinges in, as well as the header tank filler.  The sanding, cutting & grinding of the past week have trashed Celia's car, so I took it into town for a carwash.

-31Jan02, 34 hours - I managed to munge up my log, so I'm catching up now.  Move on to February for pics & descriptions from Han 14 through Feb 10.
