05Oct00, 1 hour - Installed 4 layers of glass over 20# flap motor
bracket foam reinforcements.
06Oct00, 7 hours - Continued flap motor installation. Found the
aft upper screw interfered with the motor, shortened. Also found
that I needed to cut the one inch side spacer between the upper bracket
& the A rib down to about 5/8". Finally, one more of the
landing gear bracket capscrews needed to be replaced with a c/s screw to
prevent interference with the flap actuator arms outboard of the B ribs.
Stalled now by a short pin for the left flap actuator clevis, will need
to order next longer length.
07Oct00, 4 hours - Straightened left upper trailing edge at
aileron. This required layups under & over the edge.
Repeated for underside on top right. Began fitting seatpans.
Laid in aft outboard reinforcements in seatpan bay.
08Oct00, 4 hours - Laid up bracket for Neal Garvin's split seatpan
method. This will permit removal of the pan without removing the
console. Sanded trailing edges straight. Lower panels still
need work. Screws for installing seatpan are nowhere to be found
in the hardware kit, must order more.
09Oct00, 2 hours - Removed & cleaned up seatpan brackets.
Riveted nutplates for right pan & trimmed seatpan.
10Oct00, 1.5 hours -
Riveted nutplates for left pan & trimmed seatpan.
12Oct00, 2 hours - Laid out & started cutting seatpan separation
line. Formed & potted in seat bottom blocks.
17Oct00, 7 hours - Completed installation of flap motor & torque
tubes. Laid bid on seat bottom blocks. Trimmed & rough
fitted wingtips. Laid bid on lower skin to reinforce prior to more
sanding to straighten trailing edge.
18Oct00, 2 hours - Fit right wingtip, potted trailing edge.
19Oct00, 2 hours - Fit left wingtip, potted trailing edge.
22Oct00, 3 hours - Drilled wingtips, laid 7 layers glass inside to
fill gap between tips & flange. Put silicone caulk under
seatpans to fill gap between seat & blocking. Checked wingtip
fit, added one more layer for total of 8. Finished reinstall of
aileron controls.
23Oct00, 1 hour - Silicone caulk did not cure, looks like it won't
ever cure. Purchased pure silicone (instead of the cheap
"with silicone" stuff I tried), tried again.
24Oct00, 2 hours - Sanded & fit tips, drilled to 3/16 for
screws. Removed seatpans, new caulk did the trick.
26Oct00, 2 hours - Installed all of left tip nutplates & 1/2 of
right.
28Oct00, 1 hour - Completed installation of tip nutplates,
countersunk & installed tips.
29Oct00, 10 hours - Fabricated & installed trailing edge jig with
Dad. This jig will allow construction of the ailerons & flaps
right at the wing. The braces we chose are too flexible, I'll pick
up more plywood tomorrow to complete.
30Oct00, 4 hours - Completed trailing edge jig, installed wingtip
trailing edge endcaps.
31Oct00, 1.5 hours - The leading edge of the wingtips does not close
completely at the seam, so I sanded back the primer & laid 3 layers
on the outside. When it cures I'll lay up the inside, then sand
the contour. The right tip trailing edge is not at right angles to
the aileron, so I removed the cap & put in a new one.
